Kevyn Aucoin is an American Make-up Artist, photographer and author, he was born on February 14th 1962 in Shreveport, Louisiana, United States, he then died on May 7th 2002 in Valhalla, New York, United States, of kidney and liver failure due to an addiction to painkillers.

He was interested in make-up since a child he used his sisters as models and often took photographs of his work with a polaroid camera.
he also was afraid to buy his make-up so he chose to take the risk of shoplifting it, the thought of guilt made him stop.

In 1982 he then moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to start a career as a make-up artist, as this didn't work out he then decided to move to New York City, with his boyfriend Jed Root that was also posed as his manager to help with his career.

Kevyn Aucoin first started putting make-up on test models for free to build up his portfolio, he was then discovered by vogue, he then work along side vogue photographer Steven Meisel.
In 1984 he collaborated with Revlons Naked lines, this was the first line based on skin tones. 

'I work in an industry with some of the meanest people who have ever walked the face of the earth, who live and die for the surface. But the way I see it, I have a responsibility to do the most I can do, the way I know how. Since I know how to apply makeup, that's what I do and use it as a platform.'

When Kevyn Aucoin was 21 years old Revlon hired him as creative director of their prestige ultima II line of cosmetics.

Vincent Longo and Laura Mercier then approched him to endorse their lines, he decided to launch his own brand 'Kevyn Aucoin Beauty' in 2001.
