The face

Only the rich were considered wealthy enough to have pale skin, they used several different things to achieve it such as, ceruse a foundation made of white lead (which was poisonous) and vinegar.

there was also sulphur, alum or tin ash.

some also used white eggs for a pale complexion and to hide wrinkles.

The Lips and cheeks

They would use plants such as, madder and asian plants with red roots and animal dyes such as, cochineal and beetle.

They also used egg whites and ochres to redden the cheeks.

They used madder and cochineal on the lips which reddened by using vermilion, a red pigment from mercury sulphide.

Eyes and eyebrows

Woman used kohl to rim their eyes to make them appear darker,they also used Belladonna to make their eyes darker and more sparkly.

Woman would pluck their eyebrows so their either had none or just a very thin high brow to make their foreheads appear larger.

Hair

Woman desired to have pale reddish/blonde hair so they would dye it using different substances such as, urine, cumin seeds, saffron,oil and celandine.

Woman would wear their hair down if they were not yet married, when they were married they would wear their hair up.

Some women's hair grow to be very thin or bald so they wore wigs.

Some woman became so desperate to have this desired hair they shaved their own hair off and wore wigs.

The rich woman would use jewels and hair pieces in their hair.

Skin care

Woman would often get all sorts of skin problems as a result of getting that desired pale white complexion, to help get rid of blemishes, wrinkles, spots and freckles they used, rosewater, lemon juice, and a mixture of eggshell, alum, mercury and honey.

The rich would also bathe in ass's milk while washing the face with mercury.
